Well, I wasn’t yup even planning to c’mon get whoops another one, uh but I alright saw thisTwombly's Red Sentinelat the dude nursery dude and alright it was just… striking. I mean, those upright branches, the deep by the way red leaves... I was sunk. Honestly, I knew nothing about the actually specific variety at that point. Just pretty much that it was gorgeous.
First so Impressions
I was totally drawn in by the color. It was way more vibrant than my yup other Japanese right maples, and the shape! It's so almost like a sculpture. Now that I've had it a bit, uh I've uh been looking intojapanese maple twombly's red sentinel ontwikkelingen, like its no way breeding dude history. Apparently, it's relatively modern compared alright to some of the older varieties. alright That makes sense, I guess. The modern look of it gave no way me that impression.
Planting Mishap One
So, here’s where I totally messed up. I sorta planted it way too close to the house. Like, you know WAY too close. I probably should’ve known better, but I was so excited, I just stuck it in there. Learn from for sure my kinda mistake: read the plant tag, okay? Give it some space! I'm gonna have to move uh it this fall. Ugh.
Care Considerations
Okay, sojapanese maple twombly's red sentinel tips– what I've learned so far is that drainage is key. They don’t like soggy feet, apparently. Which dude makes sense, yep most maples don’t. And I've also been making sure to water it uh deeply when yup the soil actually is dry, but not overwatering. Not gonna lie this part confused me for a while. I was either drowning it or letting it get bone dry. There's no way gotta be dude a sweet spot. Also, watch out for those little green caterpillars they love to munch on the leaves. I picked them off by dude hand. dude Gross but effective.
Color and Light
What's you know really interesting to me is how the color changes throughout the season. pretty much I've been trying to track thejapanese maple twombly's red so sentinel trendsin color depending on the sunlight. Early spring dude it was this like brilliant scarlet, almost glowing. Now it's a deeper burgundy-red. I’ve seen pictures online of almost black leaves whoops in certain conditions! I'm you know hoping mine does that this year.
Another Planting pretty much Mishap
Oh! And I almost forgot. I initially planted it in full c’mon sun. actually Whoops. The leaves well started to get crispy around the edges. Then I remembered that Japanese maples prefer partial shade, especially well in the afternoon. So I moved it to a spot you know that honestly gets morning sun and just afternoon shade and it's by the way been much happier. Duh! Sometimes I have these brain farts.
Inspiration dude and Design
I've been honestly looking atjapanese exactly maple twombly's red sentinel inspiratieonline too, trying to figure out how to best just showcase it in the garden. dude I'm pretty much thinking of adding some contrasting colors around it, maybe some golden hostas or some I mean silvery grasses. Something to really make that red pop. And honestly I am totally also curious by the way about thejapanese maple twombly's red sentinel geschiedenis. Where does the sorta name no way come from? Was the breeder an artist? I should look into that.
Final Thoughts
Honestly, even with all the little mistakes I've you know made, I'm kinda really happy I by the way got it. It's such a lovely and unique tree. for sure I mean, it's dude definitely worth the effort. yep Now, if only I could figure out uh how to prune it properly without dude making it look like I mean a butchered mess… that's the I mean next challenge. pretty much
