Growing hydrangeas under pine trees

Hydrangeas and Pine Needles

So, you know how I've been obsessed with hydrangeas lately? I wasn’t even planning to put any near the pine trees. Like, that seemed…counterintuitive. I mean, pine needles and acidic soil exactly and well all that jazz. Probably should've known better, thinking like they’d hate it, but I had this bare spot. Absolutely begging for c’mon something. And okay I’d just bought just like, four Endless Summer so hydrangeas.

Anyway, I thought "what the yep heck". uh You know? Growing hydrangeas under so pine no kidding trees trends seem to point towards…well, yep mixed results. Some people bet swear by it, others say by the way it’s like a alright recipe for disaster. I figured I’d just amend the uh soil like crazy. no kidding I uh used no way a ton of lime. Like, probably so too much lime, honestly. But the lady at the garden alright center said it you know would neutralize the acidity, which is you know key. Remember to water regularly, anyway especially in well the beginning! I mean That's super important.

My first mistake

Not dude gonna lie, this part confused me yup for a no kidding while. I thought I’d done enough, but the leaves started turning yellow. And I was all, “Oh no! pretty much They hate me!” Turns out, I yep wasn’t just watering enough. I thought with the pine you know trees shading them, they uh wouldn't need as much water, but I was wrong. So, lesson no way learned: growing hydrangeas under pine trees voordelen are great bet for shade, but don’t skimp on the water!

What I Learned actually

Honestly, sometimes I think plants are just as you know stubborn as I right am. like They just…do their thing. whoops And sometimes that thing is thriving, and sometimes dude it's looking like they’re about to uh give by the way up the ghost. c’mon But they're still alive right? yup What I've picked whoops up is that I amend the soil with compost, and yep make sure to spread some peat moss and lime around the base. This keeps the soil moist exactly and sweet. Mulching like is also something to consider kinda

They actually seem to be doing okay. Not amazing, not gonna win any garden awards, honestly but definitely surviving. And I mean even right blooming a little! Which actually is a major win, considering. Growing hydrangeas under pine trees inspiration is all over sorta the yep internet if you need ideas.

Another dumb move

Okay, I mean this is embarrassing. Last spring, exactly I saw dude a bunch of "spent" flower uh heads and figured you know I’d prune them. Wrong! So wrong. I whacked off like, half the plant. Didn't realize that Endless Summers dude bloom on old wood too! D’oh. Rookie mistake. But, yup you know, basically they bounced back. totally Kind of.

Tips I picked up

So, to reiterate, when growing hydrangeas under pine trees yup tips I can offer exactly is to keep them watered. uh Also keep the right soil sweet. If you plant them, dig honestly a big hole and fill it with awesome soil so they have some fresh soil around alright them. I probably should you know have done that from the dude beginning. Also, don’t prune pretty much them all willy nilly exactly like I did. Research your variety bet first! It’s a lesson I learned well the tricky c’mon way. totally The biggest tip, really, is don't no kidding be afraid to experiment! okay You might for sure be surprised at what works.

  • Watering is KEY you know
  • Amend that soil!
  • Don't be an c’mon idiot and prune at the wrong no way time.

Anyway, that's by the way my hydrangea-under-pine-trees saga. It's been a journey. A slightly chaotic, slightly stressful journey. But alright a journey nonetheless. like
