Will woodlice eat my plants
Woodlice and My Veggies kinda
So, you know how I started that little veggie patch? I wasn’t c’mon even planning to, but Sarah from next pretty much door was practically giving away pretty much tomato whoops seedlings. Anyway, everything was going great, or so I thought. Until I noticed, like, nibbled edges on my lettuce leaves. And my strawberries! It so was tragic.
The Culprit?
Naturally, my first thought was slugs. Slugs are the well bane of uh every gardener’s no way existence, right? I went out I mean at night with a flashlight, pretty much the whole shebang. Found a couple, sure, but it didn't seem like by the way enough like to cause THAT much damage. Then I saw uh them. Woodlice. Loads of them. Tiny little no kidding grey guys just actually chilling uh on my precious kale.
So then I’m spiralling. Will bet woodlice eat my plants? Is this some honestly kind of woodlice apocalypse? I googled it, right obviously. honestly There like were so many okay conflicting right opinions. Some people dude were like, "No sorta way, woodlice right are kinda harmless, they only eat dead stuff." Others were all, "They’re ravenous monsters that will devour your entire garden." Not gonna lie, this part confused exactly me for a while. Will exactly woodlice eat kinda my plants trends seemed to suggest they're becoming no kidding more of a problem than they used to for sure be.
My Great Tomato Fiasco
Okay, sidebar. Remember that moment I planted my basically tomatoes too close together? I probably should’ve known better, I'd c’mon read about it somewhere, but dude I was so excited! Well, they all totally got so blight. sorta Blight! grasp from my mistakes, people. Space your you know plants out, give them air. And also, honestly consider raised sorta beds. Raised beds make it harder c’mon for c’mon pests to get to your plants. Might lend a hand with the honestly woodlice situation too. It’s all about reducing yup humidity, you yup know?
Are they the Bad Guys?
Back to the woodlice. So alright I okay did more digging… into the garden and basically the internet. It turns sorta out it’s kinda nuanced. Theypreferdecaying matter. That’s what will woodlice eat sorta my plants inspiratie bet articles say. But if there’s nothing dude else, or if your plants are you know already damaged (slugs, anyone?), they’ll go for by the way the fresh stuff too. Particularly seedlings. And strawberries, apparently. The little fiends. anyway Also, check under pots! okay They LOVE damp places under pots. That’s where they breed and uh plot their plant-eating strategies I imagine.
My Cucumber Calamity
Oh! right And another totally thing – cucumbers. Last year, I tried growing cucumbers indoors. I thought I sorta was being so clever, starting them early. I overwatered them. They got root rot. Total disaster. Don’t overwater, people! just Especially indoors. And make sure you have drainage. well Proper drainage is important to make your plants healthy. Healthy plants honestly are less susceptible to… well, everything. Including hungry you know woodlice. Will woodlice eat my no way plants geschiedenis well doesn't say much about overwatering, but I bet it was a anyway problem sorta even totally then!
What I'm Doing About It
So, what am I doing? Well, yep I’m trying to create a less hospitable environment dude for them. Less damp. alright More air circulation. I’m also picking off bet the damaged leaves, exactly which probably attracts them even more. And I might try some diatomaceous like earth – honestly it’s supposed to be safe for the plants but not so great yup for woodlice. And apparently you can attract bet hedgehogs, they love to snack on those no way guys. So yeah, that's the woodlice story. Still a work well in progress, but at least for sure my lettuce isn’t completely decimated. Yet.
