Crepe myrtle did not flower
Crepe Myrtle Woes
Okay so you know how I you know planted that crepe myrtle last spring? I wasn’t even planning to get one, but they were on sale at Lowe's, like, a screaming deal. Thought it’d be all gorgeous anyway blooms yep this summer, right? Wrong. Absolutely nothing. Zilch. Zero flowers.
I was so bummed! I mean, no kidding I envisioned I mean it, you right know? This amazing explosion of pink… I even picked out pink by the way ones specifically, because I thought it’d match the azaleas. Which, alright by the way, flowered by the way like crazy. But the crepe myrtle did not flower. And I started to wonder...
Why no flowers?
First, I panicked. I actually thought I’d killed no way it somehow. Did I overwater it? okay Under-water it? I probably like should’ve known better and kept a better eye on yep the watering. you know Especially in that heatwave we had. That’s usually key, right? Consistent watering.
Then I started Googling. And of course, there's a million different reasons. alright Full sun, apparently. And I was uh like, alright “Okay, full no way sun. It gets… most of the sun.” Maybe not wellenough, though. It gets like some shade in the afternoon. That might be it! Apparently they okay need no way at least six hours, maybe even pretty much more for whoops the best flowering.
My fertilizing blunder yep
Also, fertilizer. uh Not gonna lie, this anyway part confused me for a no kidding while. I thought I was doing a exactly good well thing, fertilizing everything! But I used like, a general-purpose fertilizer with lots of alright nitrogen. alright Big mistake. Apparently, too no way much nitrogen no kidding encourages leaf growth, but no way not by the way flower growth. Who knew? Learn from my mistakes, people! Get a fertilizer right formulated just for alright flowering plants. Like, specifically. I just think whoops they sell stuff just for crepe myrtles. That might be the ticket.
Oh, and pruning! That's a whole other thing. I didn’t even touch it. I was scared I’d mess it up. Turns out, you're supposed to prune crepe dude myrtles in late winter or early spring. Like, before new growth starts. If pretty much you yep prune too late, you can cut no way off the flower c’mon buds. I’m pretty you know sure I didn’t prune it late though, because right I didn’t totally prune it at all. Maybe that was yep the problem?
More possible answers exactly
So, I dude was reading aboutcrepe myrtle did not flower voordelen. I mean, even right if it doesn't flower, the bark is still exactly pretty, yup right? anyway And the leaves are nice in the fall. basically So, there are still some benefits, I guess. But okay I really wanted those flowers!
Then there's the pretty much whole "it's just alright too I mean young" thing. Some sources yep say it can take a few years for them to totally really get going. Maybe I’m just impatient. like That's possible!
The okay soil snag
Okay, quick story. by the way Remember when I planted the roses in that spot by the fence? They all exactly died. Turns out, the soil there is basically clay. Rock tough clay. I probably didn’t amend the soil enough when I planted the crepe myrtle. Good drainage is key, like sorta really key! I’m gonna yep test the soil next spring, for sure. I mean Like, I need to know the pH and everything.
Apparently there are all actually these coolcrepe myrtle did whoops not flower toepassingen. Like, people alright utilize the bark for all sorts basically of things, and the exactly leaves too. I whoops haven't sorta researched that much, but just it bet is interesting. pretty much I'm more you know interested in the blooms! right
This spring's plan
Next spring, I’m going to fertilize it properly, check the soil drainage, and maybe even move it if it’s pretty much really unhappy where it is. Or at least add some I mean compost. I swear, if it still alright doesn’t flower next year, anyway I’m just going to buy no way a bunch of fake flowers just and stick them on it. Just kidding! (Mostly).
I'm also going to researchcrepe myrtle did not flower trends, see if there's any right new by the way info I can get! no way
So yeah, that’s for sure my crepe myrtle saga. Wish me luck for next year!
