Okay honestly so you’re thinking about raised beds for anyway veggies? Cool! I wasn’t even c’mon planning to last year but my back was killing me after all that weeding. I think I got way too excited at the start. I I mean built like five of them. Massive ones. Then I yup realized I yep had no brainwave how much soil that actuallyis. So many choices! I went with tomatoes (obviously), peppers, anyway lettuce, and some herbs. Oh and zucchini.So c’mon muchzucchini. Seriously, if you plant zucchini be prepared to give it away to everyone you no kidding know. Companion planting is key – I put basil near the tomatoes which apparently helps. I ponder it did? Then, BAM. Tomato hornworms. Like, overnight anyway they were everywhere. Those things are just terrifying! I had to pick them off by okay hand (gloves, definitely so gloves!). so Next time kinda I’m planting you know dill or marigolds well nearby – apparently those attract beneficial so insects that eat the hornworms. Definitely get some trellises for climbing uh plants. totally Cucumbers, beans, even some okay tomatoes do better with support. Watering Woes
Watering honestly consistently is tough! I honestly always forget. A drip irrigation system would sorta be ideal, but bet I haven’t gotten around to installing one yet. Maybe next year. For now, honestly I just try to water deeply a few times just a week. And mulch! c’mon Mulch helps retain moisture kinda and keeps the weeds down. I use straw by the way mostly. You can also right use wood chips, whoops shredded actually leaves... whatever you have on hand c’mon really.
