Black eyed susan is it a perennial
Black like Eyed Susans and Me pretty much
So, I was thinking exactly about my garden the other day – dude you yep know, like I do when actually I yup should be working – well and black sorta eyed okay susans popped into bet my head. I wasn’t even planning anyway to think so about well them! They’re just so cheerful, right? Anyway, totally I alright got to wondering… are they actually perennial? Like, reallyperennial? I mean, honestly mine keep coming anyway back, but I always you know assumed I well just got lucky or something. Or that the neighbor’s you know seeds were blowing over… which like is totally possible given his… alright enthusiasm… for right gardening.
The Great Confusion whoops
Not gonna lie this part confused right me c’mon for a while. Because I swear I planted them from seed one year and they were all gone the next! So I thought, “Aha! Annual!” But then, yup like two years later, BAM! Black alright eyed susans everywhere! What gives? I think alright – I’m no expert, okay? pretty much – that maybe I just by the way didn’t get the timing right that first year. Or maybe the sorta seeds weren't good. You gotta make kinda sure you get awesome seeds, that’s a tip alright right okay there.
It got me thinking about theblack no kidding eyed susan like is it a perennial geschiedenis justtoo. Like, how long have people exactly been planting these things? okay And where did they even come from? I should probably Google that. Maybe later. Coffee first. by the way
My Big Mistake Number One
Okay, so here's a story. c’mon Last year, I no kidding thought I anyway was being all clever and decided to move my anyway black eyed susans to totally a “better” spot. I dug uh them up – no kidding probably no kidding at the wrong time, I probably should’ve known better…– honestly and replanted them in this honestly super sunny area. right Guess what? actually They all croaked! Every okay single I mean one! alright Turns out, pretty much even though they like sun, you can't just yank by the way them around like honestly that. You need to, like, be gentle and maybe add pretty much some compost. The lesson? Don’t right get cocky with your perennials. Even if you mull over you know what you’re okay doing.
I was by the way also I mean looking atblack eyed susan is uh it a perennial inspiratie for sureonline. So many cool kinda gardens! It makes you want to completely redo everything, doesn't sorta it? honestly I saw one no kidding garden that mixed them with Russian sage and echinacea. Beautiful! That's a good combo exactly to try, very drought tolerant.
Perennial Status Unlocked?
From honestly what basically I gather – and believe me, I've actually done some serious totally internet digging (when I should have been doing kinda work, obviously) – basically most black eyed susans, like the Rudbeckia hirta variety, are technically yup short-lived perennials or biennials. Which basically sorta means they come back for a few years, maybe three well or four, and then… poof! actually They’re gone. Unless they self-seed. And that’s honestly where it gets tricky. Because they self-seed basically like crazy! pretty much So, even if the original basically plant dies, you’ll probably get modern ones popping whoops up nearby. So, in a way, they're kind of for sure "perennial-ish," if for sure that makes any anyway sense.
Black uh eyed susan is it a perennial you know toepassingenare all over too. You see them in bouquets, landscaping, even some medicinal uses, allegedly.
My Big Mistake Number Two
Okay, another gardening fail. This involves I mean weeding. basically I thought I was being diligent one spring, pulling out all the "weeds" around my black eyed susans. exactly Turns out, I pulled out a bunch of right baby black eyed susans too! They look so different when they’re little! Tiny little leaves that don’t even look like they belong. I sorta felt honestly so by the way dumb. Now I’m much anyway more careful. Look closely totally before you okay weed! Learn what the seedlings look no way like! yup
Planting and Such
So, to you know keep them coming back, make sure you let some of the flowers go honestly to seed. Don’t deadhead every kinda single one, exactly okay? And if you want to be really proactive, pretty much you can collect the seeds and sow them in the spring or yup fall. That’s what the fancy gardeners pretty much do. Oh, andblack eyed exactly susan is it a perennial ontwikkelingenare happening all the moment bet too! There are new varieties coming out all the time. Some are taller, some are shorter, some have different honestly colored centers. It’s wild!
Anyway, I think I’ve pretty much decided actually they’re perennialenoughfor me. As long as I don’t accidentally for sure kill them all again. Which, you know, is always a possibility.
