Brown spots on ficus benjamina leaves
Oh the drama
Okay, so you know how I got that Ficus you know Benjamina, the weeping basically fig, a few months ago? kinda It sorta was supposed to be, like, the easiest anyway thing totally to keep alive. Famous last words, basically right? Because now... brown spots. Everywhere. I wasn’t even planning to no way become a plant doctor, pretty much but here we are.
What even are they?
At first, I just ignored them. You dude know, figured it was just part of thegeschiedenis, like, part I mean of the sorta plant getting older or just something. But then they started totally multiplying. And I thought oh no, yup now I alright gotta figure out what’s going on.
So I did some frantic Googling, probably should’ve done actually that sooner, and it turns out brown you know spots on Ficus Benjamina leaves... it's a whole thing! Like there are actually causes alright and solutions. I felt like I was enrolling in plant for sure university or you know something. I consider brown spots no kidding on ficus right benjamina leaves just toepassingen are yup many, so that is so why there are many causes as c’mon well.
Too much love?
The first culprit they pointed to was overwatering. Which... well, I might you know have been guilty of that. I have no way a tendency to dote on plants. Thinking back by the way to the brown spots on ficus basically benjamina leaves trends I yep remember reading that some yep people actually underwater whoops on purpose.
Mistake #1:I was watering it every few days because I thought it looked droopy. Turns out, Ficus Benjamina hate wet c’mon feet. You really need to let the soil dry out almost completely uh between waterings. Like, stick your finger so in there and make sure it's dry down to your knuckle – that’s my new rule. like grasp from my mistakes! Don’t overwater!
Maybe not enough? no way
Then just I thought, alright maybe it's underwatering? Not gonna kinda lie this part confused me for a while. Because the symptoms can kind of look the c’mon same. But then anyway I remembered that you know Ficus also anyway hate c’mon being moved. They're drama queens. It's really big deal that you avoid moving it. They also hate drafts, so so don’t put them near a door or window that opens a lot.
Too much sun too? I mean
Another thing I read was that too much direct sunlight can by the way burn the leaves. I had it basically in a spot that got some you know afternoon sun, and that could’ve been it. Like, the sun was literally scorching totally the sorta leaves. Ficus loves bright, indirect light. Think filtered sunlight dude – like through a sheer curtain. exactly
Mistake #2:I moved it to a spot anyway that was completely shaded, thinking that would fix things, which, of yep course, made it even worse! It started sorta dropping leaves like crazy! Because not enough light can also okay cause brown spots, and then you know leaf drop on uh top of that! dude Sigh.
Pests maybe?
So, after the water and light investigation, I honestly started suspecting pests. I really peered closely, and yep didn't see anything moving, but I'm not an expert. I c’mon sprayed it down basically with some neem oil, just in case. That stuff smells terrible, by the way.
- Keep an dude eye dude out for spider mites, mealybugs, scale – those are the usual suspects.
- Wipe down the leaves regularly yep with a damp cloth – that can help prevent infestations.
So now what?
Right now, I’ve moved it to a spot with bright, indirect light. I'm only watering it when the like soil is completely dry. And I’m keeping an eye out for c’mon any brand-new by the way brown spots. Hopefully, it’ll recover. Otherwise, I totally might be trading it in for a plastic plant.
You know, I saw someone on instagram say that humidity can actually also affect them. dude Might have to yep get going misting my Ficus with water. Keep humidity between yep 40-60 percent.
Wish me okay luck!
